Tip: Tools for Differentiation > Opportunities to Respond
Each learner is different. Some are outgoing, and others are introverted. Some like to speak up to answer questions; others might be hesitant to voice their ideas and opinions. Providing choice and voice to learners in how they respond to prompts contributes to a more engaging, personalized, and effective learning environment.
Among other benefits, these different (and frequent) opportunities to respond promote:
- Increased engagement & motivation (such as autonomy and relevance).
- Differentiated learning (such as catering to diverse needs and personalization).
- Development of critical skills (such as decision-making and creativity).
- Enhanced ownership and responsibility (such as ownership of learning and accountability).
- Improved confidence and self-esteem (such as validation and experiencing success).
- Further practice of communication and expression (such as the development of their own voice).
- Preparation for real-world scenarios (such as real-life skills and adaptability).
- Enhanced teacher-student relationships (such as understanding, respect, and individualized support). (Check out the eMINTS PAL Program to learn more about enhancing TSRs in your school!)
- Practical implementation (such as a variety of prompts and multiple formats).
Use Along & FigJam to provide different avenues and choices for how learners respond to prompts. They can record a video response with or without their face, choose to record just audio, create a video response from the tools on the platforms, or simply input text to submit their answers.
