Creative Commons (CC) LicensEsA creative commons (CC) license allows the free distribution of otherwise copyrighted work. With a CC license, the original author/creator retains copyright but gives others the right to share, use, and build on their original work. Levels of this "some rights reserved" approach is outlined below. Depending on restriction, some are open educational resources (OER) and some are not.

ATTRIBUTION (BY): You may copy, distribute, display the work and make derivative remixes only if you give original author credit (attribution) and indicate if changes were made. May not label remixed work in a way that suggests original author endorses you or your use.

SHARE ALIKE (SA): You may remix, transform or build on the work, but you must distribute your version under the same license as the original. May not be more restrictive, e.g., CC BY to CC BY-NC.

NON-COMMERCIAL (NC): You may copy distribute, display the work and make derivative remixes only for non-commercial purposes. |

NO DERIVATIVE WORKS (ND): You may copy, distribute, and display only identical copies of the work with no modifications.

Most eMINTS National Center CC products are CC BY-NC-SA. 
This means that you may copy, distribute, display the work as well as make derivative remixes non-commercially if you give original author credit (attribution) and distribute any remix, transforamtion, or addition to original work under the same license as the original.
