When things get tough in the academic year and we enter “The Persistence Phase,” try these simple methods to promote a #CommunityOfLearners.
- Colleagues: Lean on your colleagues when you need support. Maybe there is an instructional coach, department chair, or mentor teacher who might lend a hand in the area you’re struggling. Turn to a digital platform such as social media to request input from other colleagues outside of your building, district, community, or state.
- Communicate: Send positive messages home to learners’ families. If the first form of communication is positive, adults will be more likely and willing to partner with the educator to help the learner. Frontloading communication with learners and other stakeholders is always helpful and a good investment of time. To save time, create a “plug-n-play” template for how you send that communication out to families.
- Celebrate: Notice something beautiful in your day or in someone else? Find a small win for the day? Speak it aloud. Celebrate it. The more we look for the positives, the more the positives find us. Celebrate others’ successes, celebrate prosocial behavior, celebrate improvement!
