Rigor doesn't simply mean giving students more or harder work. Instead, it's the result of work that challenges students' thinking in new and interesting ways. Rigor occurs when learners are encouraged toward a sophisticated understanding of fundamental ideas and are driven by curiosity to discover what they don't know. DOK helps to ensure that the standard being addressed is aligned to instructional practices that support students in demonstrating their understanding at varying levels of complexity.
