Building classroom community provides students with a safe environment in which they feel connected to others. Students who feel safe and connected as a community are more comfortable taking risks, such as trying something new or contributing ideas, because they do not worry about how others will perceive them. A first step in building classroom community is providing a variety of activities where students get to know one another, find friends, and make connections.
