Tip: Cooperative Learning for Brainstorming > Stir the Classroom

Cooperative learning structures can be used for many purposes: brainstorming, community-building, reflection, and much more! This month, we are highlighting FIVE cooperative learning strategies to use in your classroom to prompt brainstorming with your learners!
Next up: Stir the Classroom! To use this strategy:
- Have teams of 4 meet around the perimeter of the room. (Try using the Corners structure from last week’s #emintsTip as a grouping strategy.)
- Number off (from 1-4) in each group.
- Have teams discuss a question or prompt displayed for everyone’s viewing.
- When time is up, randomly select a number (1-4).
- Stir the classroom by having that number team member move to the next group in a designated order to share information discussed in their home group and to learn new information from a new team.
- Repeat this process of stirring the classroom with a new prompt.
- Continue stirring by sending a random numbered team member to the next group to share and receive information.
