Cooperative learning structures can be used for many purposes: brainstorming, community-building, reflection, and much more! This month, we are highlighting FIVE cooperative learning strategies to use in your classroom to prompt brainstorming with your learners!
First up: Corners! To use this strategy:
- Each corner of the room represents a predetermined response to a question, problem, viewpoint, or other identifier.
- After hearing the prompt, individuals move to the corner that best represents their thinking.
- Those in the same corner form pairs or trios to discuss their thinking and brainstorm ideas together about a topic.
- Representatives volunteer or the facilitator selects them from each corner to summarize or paraphrase their discussion to gain more insights and ideas as a whole group.
